Abhishek Sharma was fined 25 percent of his match fee and given one demerit point after Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 2.
The IPL punished the SRH opener for breaking the league’s Code of Conduct during the match. He was found guilty of using offensive language on the field.
According to the IPL, the match referee said Abhishek broke Article 2.3 of the Code of Conduct. This rule covers words that are considered abusive, obscene, or profane, and can be heard by spectators or viewers through stump microphones or other means.
Abhishek accepted the punishment. The IPL said the offence was a Level 1 breach, which means the match referee’s decision is final.
The exact incident was not officially mentioned, but many believe the punishment came after Abhishek reacted angrily to his controversial dismissal. He was caught in the deep by Varun Chakravarthy, and even after a third-umpire review, he was given out.
